“Constructed Paintings”

Artist Statement:

In order to break free from the mass of styles and approaches that exists in art today, I go back to the core of classical painting: the structure, the substrate, the plastic material (paint), and the mechanical fastener  - and then I rebel from it. I see my art pieces as paintings or drawings in space. I often envision these small scale pieces on large planes and have tested this concept when I’m in galleries and museums, even as compared to large renaissance paintings.

While I focus on a syntax within the piece through material, texture, color, and positioning, I also see this in juxtaposition with other pieces. The work is intimate to me, about relationships within the work, their dialogue, their poignancy which is in a sense societal: expressions of different voices that work together.
